It was the year Michael Jackson left us, and the year that Lil Wayne never arrived. A year that began with people talking about Bruce Springsteen's TV crotch shot and ended with people talking about Adam Lambert's TV crotch shot. The year of Chris Brown's fall from grace and Whitney Houston's near-return to it. A year when the two biggest superstars were Taylor Swift and Susan Boyle, whose average age and cuteness would baffle any statistician trying to come up with an elusive formula to save the music business.

Travel back with us now through the last 12 months in music, if you dare!

* "Prom Queen," the first single off Lil Wayne's highly touted rap-rock project, leaks. An impending blockbuster album from the commercially reliable superstar in April is just what retailers are counting on to shake up a dangerously sleepy music business. What joy it'll bring when Weezy ushers in the spring!

* Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band play the Super Bowl halftime show. Sliding across the stage, the Boss' crotch heads straight for the camera. Everyone rejoices that the god of wardrobe malfunctions is on our side this year.
