According to an entertainment marketing expert, the Grammy award should be taken seriously by artists and viewers also though it mostly recognizes popular music. Brent Smith is an assistant professor of marketing in Saint Joseph’s University in Philadelphia and he says Grammy also provides a chance for less popular artists to become recognized while other well-known music awards like American Music awards or Billboard Music awards choose their winners according to the gain in record sales or radio airplay.

He also added that every brand should be relevant to mainstream music audience to some extent. In Grammies, the nominees and winners are elected by their peers and so it presents most respected award show in the music industry.

According to Smith, there is a clear difference between art and commerce of the music and these two do not go well together always. He took the example of Jazz pianist Hancock to establish this fact. Hancock’s peers who are popular performing artists know his contribution towards to art of the music.

The commerce of the music is solely related to revenue generated by the particular number. Now a days, most of the consumers in music industry are interested in downloads, ring tones and dance ability. In such situation Grammy award is putting a sincere effort to preserve and protect the voice of core community of music creators.

Pop diva Beyoncé became most decorated female artist at the Grammy Awards on Sunday night, but she also shared the evening's spotlight with country ingenue Taylor Swift.

Beyoncé was the queen of the Los Angeles ceremony, setting a record by winning six Grammys for her album I am... Sasha Fierce and hit songs like Single Ladies (Put a Ring On It).

Beyoncé performs at the Grammy Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday. (Kevin Winter/Getty Images)"This has been such an amazing night for me and I'd love to thank the Grammys," she said as she took the stage to accept the trophy for best female pop vocal performance for her ballad Halo.

Her voice wavering with emotion, she also thanked her fans and her family, extending the shout-out to husband — and another of Sunday night's multiple Grammy-winners — Jay-Z.

Beyoncé earned the televised show's first award of the night — song of the year for Single Ladies (Put a Ring On It) — and turned in a spirited performance of her track If I Were a Boy and Alanis Morissette's You Oughta Know.

Coming into Sunday with a leading 10 nominations, she was a dominant force even at the non-televised Los Angeles gala Sunday afternoon, where she won contemporary R&B album for I am...Sasha Fierce, best R&B song and best female R&B vocal performance for Single Ladies (Put a Ring On It) and traditional R&B performance for At Last, from the film Cadillac Records.

Previously, she had been among a host of women — including Alicia Keys, Alison Krauss, Lauryn Hill, Norah Jones and Amy Winehouse — who had each taken home five Grammy Awards in a single year.

Swift wins
Beyoncé led what was a strong night for a few leading ladies at the Grammys, with chart-toppers Swift and Lady Gaga also scoring multiple honours.

Swift picked up the night's final trophy — album of the year — for her bestselling release Fearless. The win was one of four for the 20-year-old.

"I just want you to know how much it means to me… and to all these musicians you see on stage that we get to take this back to Nashville," Swift squealed.

"When we're 80 years old and telling all the same stories… this is the story we're gonna be telling over and over again."

Fearless was also named best country album and Swift accepted a pair of trophies (female country vocal performance and country song for White Horse) at the pre-show Grammy ceremony, declaring happily, "This is my first Grammy, you guys!"

Outrageous dance-pop artist Lady Gaga kicked off the broadcast with a fiery, eye-popping performance that segued into a duet with British icon Elton John. She too started the gala with a pair of Grammys already under her belt: dance recording for Poker Face and electronic/dance album for The Fame.

Key trophy
Southern rockers Kings of Leon landed a choice award, however, when their track Use Somebody won the coveted record of the year title. The band also walked away with Grammys for best rock duo or group and best rock song (also for Use Somebody ).

The Black Eyed Peas ended the night with three Grammys: for their album The E.N.D. (pop vocal album) and their hit songs I Gotta Feeling (pop performance by a duo or group with vocals) and Boom Boom Pow (short-form music video).

Other notable winners included:

Country's Zac Brown Band, winner of best new artist after the success of its debut album The Foundation.
Jay-Z, whose track Run This Town (featuring Rihanna and Kanye West) was named best rap/sung collaboration and best rap song. His song D.O.A. (Death of Autotune) also picked up the Grammy for best rap solo performance.
Hit TV satirist Stephen Colbert, whose A Colbert Christmas: The Greatest Gift of All! was named best comedy album.
Green Day, who picked up best rock album for 21st Century Breakdown.
Rapper Eminem, whose album Relapse won best rap album and whose track Crack a Bottle (featuring Dr. Dre and 50 Cent) scored rap duo or group performance.
Double-winner R&B singer Maxwell (R&B album for BLACKsummers'night and best male R&B vocal performance for Pretty Wings).
Singer-songwriter Jason Mraz, whose tune Make It Mine nabbed male pop vocal performance and whose duet Lucky (with Colbie Caillat) won pop collaboration with vocals.

Terrill/Associated Press)Along with Gaga, Beyoncé, Black Eyed Peas and country group Lady Antebellum, performers also included Green Day, who took the stage with cast members of their musical American Idiot, and singer Pink, who participated in an impressive aerial acrobatics routine while singing her ballad I Don't Believe You.

The show also featured periodic mentions of special Grammy award winners — including lifetime achievement award winners Leonard Cohen and Loretta Lynn — and some out-of-the-ordinary performances.

Céline Dion, Usher, Carrie Underwood, Jennifer Hudson and Smokey Robinson performed along with a recording of Michael Jackson's Earth Song, in front of 3-D footage created for the late Jackson's This is It concerts. Two of Jackson's children, Prince Michael and Paris, then accepted their father's lifetime achievement award.

Mary J. Blige and Andrea Bocelli teamed up to sing the classic Simon and Garfunkel song Bridge Over Troubled Waters, with their collaboration to be offered for sale as a charity single supporting Haitian earthquake relief at the iTunes online music store.

99 categories on pre-telecast
In a fast-paced, pre-telecast afternoon gala — hosted by Grammy-winning singers Kurt Elling and Tia Carrere — awarded trophies in 99 categories.

Several Canadians were among those winners.

Neil Young snagged the award for best boxed or special limited edition package for his elaborately designed box set The Archives, Vol. 1 1963-1972.

The Canadian music legend had also been honoured during the weekend's festivities as the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences' MusiCares person of the year.

Actor Michael J. Fox won the best spoken word album Grammy for Always Looking Up, based on his book Always Looking Up: The Adventures of an Incurable Optimist — which explores his personal philosophy amid an ongoing struggle with Parkinson's disease and stories of other optimists who have triumphed over adversity.

Crooner Michael Bublé was honoured with the award for traditional pop vocal album, for his album Michael Bublé Meets Madison Square Garden.

Canadian acts who failed to win included rap newcomer Drake, Montreal duo Beast, rock group Nickelback, hit producer David Foster, R&B singer Melanie Fiona and aboriginal singers Northern Cree.

Other pre-telecast highlights included:

Engineered album, non-classical: Ellipse, by Imogen Heap, who arrived out of breath onstage from having just arrived moments before. The quirky artist turned up clutching a transparent parasol and bearing a sort-of electronic scarf featuring a scrolling Twitter feed.
Jazz vocal album: Dedicated to You: Kurt Elling sings the music of Coltrane and Hartman, by gala co-host Kurt Elling. The singer noted that it was his first win after nine nominations.
Remixed Recording: When Love Takes Over, by David Guetta with Kelly Rowland. French D.J. Guetta noted that he received "five nominations, so it means that finally DJ culture and dance music is growing in America... I'm not a real musician, trained. I cannot write music, but I started remixing music and that's how I started making music."
Traditional folk album: High Wide & Handsome: The Charlie Poole Project, by Loudon Wainwright III, who ended his acceptance speech by thanking his late ex-wife Kate McGarrigle, "who taught me how to frail the banjo 40 years ago." Canadian folk icon McGarrigle, mother of singers Martha and Rufus Wainwright, will be honoured at a memorial in Montreal on Monday.
Metal Performance: Dissident Aggressor, by Judas Priest. Singer Rob Halford noted that the win came after the five Grammy nominations. "Judas Priest has been making metal for over 35 years... Around the planet, we love what we do."

As Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie were across town proving they were still very much a couple, Taylor Swift and Joe Jonas proved that ya could still be friends even if you're no longer together.

The former sweethearts had a red carpet reunion when they bumped into each other at the Clive Davis and the Recording Academy pre-Grammy gala at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

How did it go? Find out after the jump!

Swift and Jonas sure appeared happy to see each other. After embracing for a tight hug, they chatted and laughed for a few minutes before the JoBro made his way into the party.

Meanwhile, Swift didn't want to jinx anything by predicting her chances of winning any of the eight Grammys she's nominated for, but the digits of today's date—1/31—are a good sign.

"My lucky number is 13, and I've seen it so much lately," she said. "I think it means positive things."

Swift isn't only a big-time nominee, but she's also performing on tonight's show with Stevie Nicks.

Music aside, Swift does have acting on the brain. We'll see her on the big screen next month opposite Taylor Lautner in the star-studded romantic comedy Valentine's Day.

"I was driving down the road the other day and I saw my face on the movie poster for the first time," she said. "That was really crazy."

And as if we needed any more reasons to dig Ms. Swift, she said she'd love to make an appearance on a certain hit musical television show.

"I'm really loving Glee right now," she said. "If it did happen, I'd love to see what they would do with me."

Attention, Ryan Murphy?please call Taylor Swift now!

As for the pre-Grammy party last night, the guest list was out of hand with folks like Rihanna (in the most amazing Viktor & Rolf cotton-candy-inspired dress), Jay-Z, Adam Lambert, Kris Allen, Katy Perry, Russell Brand, Kevin Jonas and his new wife, Ne-Yo, Paula Abdul, Kara DioGuardi, Randy Jackson, Pink, Mya, Leonardo DiCaprio, Stephen Colbert, Chace Crawford, Josh Duhamel, Richie Sambora, Jon Bon Jovi and so many more.

Performers included the always crowd-pleasing Black Eyed Peas, followed by Fergie's cover of "Sweet Child of Mine" with Slash. Jennifer Hudson sang "People" and "The Way We Were" in tribute to guest Barbra Streisand, who spent much of the evening chatting with tablemate Jane Fonda (I think Fox News just imploded a little bit).

Carrie Underwood dueted with Harry Connick Jr. And Mary J. Blige's performance of "No More Drama" and her Precious song, "I Can See in Color" was jawdroppping O-M-G.

Ke$ha was the only disappointment. Sorry, but the "Tik Tok" singer sounded and looked like someone doing Ke$ha in a high school talent show.

Haters, flamers, and trolls will be blocked/deleted. If you can't understand that a parodic tribute to glam rock is just that - meant to be funny - then I pity you.

Vanessa Hudgens departed from the Diesel store on Melrose in LA this past weekend carrying a bag that we assume was stuffed with new clothes. Also, in more inspiring news about the starlet she will be contributing to the Haiti George Lopez and Friends Benefit Concert later this week. Learn more below.

So who else will appear at the benefit, which is set for February 4th? Some big name stars are on the roster, they include: Samuel L. Jackson, Kobe Bryant and Margaret Cho, amongst others.

Aside from shopping the Disney created starlet has been keeping a low profile as of late. Which just probably means she is caught up in one project or another, or perhaps she is out of work, but, I doubt that’s the case.

In July her new movie, ‘Beastly’ will hit theaters, and the promoting has already begun. Just recently Hudgens promoted the film via video stream on Facebook, which allowed her to interact with viewers online.

The movie’s fan page has reached a not so staggering 5,000 visitors. This reportedly sparked Zac Efron’s gal to plea with her fans to visit the site, asking them to help her reach 15,000 hits.

I just found the following quote, which reveals how much Vanessa Hudgens really does care about her fans.

"American Idol" has publicly dissed a Jonas Brother.
Joe Jonas joined the panel in Dallas on the heels of a tough act to follow — Neil Patrick Harris, who stood up to Simon Cowell without coming out the loser, no mean feat when it comes to the King of Mean.

After giving Jonas the usual guest-judge buildup — including Randy Jackson insisting he is actually the fourth JoBro — the show made a not-so-subtle jab at the teen heartthrob.

There were hints even before the big dis. For starters, the show gave Patrick Harris a full 40 minutes, leaving only 20 for Jonas. And notably absent was the bit where one of the judges pals around with the guest to gauge their take on the proceedings to come.

But it still came as a surprise when in his first, one-sided interaction with any of the judges, Randy turned to Joe — who was seated beside him behind the table — and said a little pointedly, "Yeah man, dude, it's cold in here," as Simon stood up and dramatically pulled on a sweater.

Joe, in the meantime, seemed fascinated by something on the surface of the table.

Maybe he's just shy. But the implication was clear — Jonas was not making an effort to make friends with his fellow panelists.

Things didn't get much better from there. The first auditioner up was the goofily charming Todrick Hall, who told the judges he'd appeared with season three winner Fantasia in "The Color Purple."

Hall composed a ditty especially for his audience of "Idol" judges, with playfully solicitous lyrics that mentioned them by name.

"Sittin' there like a bump on a log, Randy what do I have to do to be a dawg?" Hall warbled, to name one example.

Everyone warmed to Hall's audition, but Jonas' delivery was a little robotic when he said, through a slightly forced smile, "That was awesome, man. Definitely you have star power, for sure."

After that, he proved himself to be a "Yeah, man," kind of man. In contrast to last night's guests — Katy Perry and Avril Lavigne, and his immediate predecessor, NPH — he never went against the grain of the panel's predominant opinion. When they said no, he said no, and when they said yes, he said, "Yeah."
