Saosin guitarist/founding member Beau Burchell gives fans the heads up on the band’s upcoming concert in Kuala Lumpur.
These are golden days for extreme rock music fans in Malaysia. While the majority of metalheads in the 1980s and early 90s had to be happy with watching their favourite hair metal bands live through crusty videotapes and VCDs, the last few years have seen a massive boom in the influx of metal/hardcore bands into the country. From old hands such as Sick Of It All to newer bands such as Soilwork and Comeback Kid, the extreme music fraternity in Malaysia can be forgiven in thinking that Christmas comes often, albeit a little sweatier and more tattooed.
The latest headbanging band slated to grace these shores is none other than Saosin.
The band is slated for a concert on Feb 1 at KL Live as part of the By Demand series. Hailing from the sunny skies of Newport Beach, California, the five-piece band has been making huge headways in the metal/hardcore music scene since its inception in 2003.
Despite losing the services of original member/vocalist Anthony Green (just before the band’s big break with Capitol Records back in 2004), Saosin has kept going and stuck together as a unit. The band soldiered on with new singer Cove Reber. Now with two full-length albums under its studded belts, Saosin, also consisting of Beau Burchell (guitars), Justin Shekoski (guitars), Chris Sorenson (bass) and Alex Rodriguez (drums) have built an explosive repertoire. As one of the top young rock acts in the game, Saosin has also made a crossover case for itself, with high profile tours alongside Linkin Park and perennial hardcore favourites Underoath.
In a recent email interview, guitarist and founding member Burchell, 31, answered some questions on coping with the lost of a central figure in the band, the struggles of being in a saturated genre and what are Saosin’s plans for the upcoming Kuala Lumpur show.
